Clear are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and coordination of mechanical, public health, and fire life safety systems across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to detailed design. The successful candidate will be a technically strong engineer capable of managing complex building services projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring designs meet regional codes and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Delivery
- Lead the end-to-end mechanical design process, covering chilled water systems, HVAC, fire suppression, drainage, and public health systems.
- Develop and review design drawings, calculations, and specifications, ensuring compliance with local authority requirements (e.g., KSA, UAE) and applicable international codes (BS, IEC, NFPA).
- Review and validate third-party or existing design packages, identifying gaps, errors, or areas for improvement.
- Support the BIM/Revit team with technical guidance during the development of coordinated models, single-line diagrams, and MEP layouts.
- Own the RFI process - issuing, tracking, and resolving queries with clients and consultants in a timely manner.
Coordination & Leadership
- Act as the primary point of technical contact with the Technical Director, presenting design proposals and managing changes driven by site conditions or interdisciplinary clashes.
- Drive coordination across all engineering disciplines to ensure a unified, buildable design.
- Apply sound engineering judgment across systems, balancing performance, cost, and constructability.
- Identify and propose value engineering opportunities to optimize design efficiency and cost.
- Support the estimation/bid team with technical input during tender preparation.
- Ensure all deliverables meet applicable legal, safety, and industry standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant design experience within the construction industry; prior exposure to data centre or other mission-critical facilities is a strong advantage.
- Solid technical grounding across mechanical disciplines - chilled water, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks (including MTO/quantity review), plus general MS Office proficiency.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exposure to Middle East design codes and regulatory frameworks is beneficial.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team environment.
