Our client is a globally recognised engineering and technology business delivering innovative, modular mission-critical infrastructure across Europe. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of projects in France, they are looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer to join their Paris-based engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a leading role in the design and delivery of large-scale data centre developments, taking ownership of the HVAC discipline throughout the entire project lifecycle—from concept design and technical development through to construction support, commissioning and handover.
Working closely with the Chief Technology Officer and international engineering teams, you will act as the technical lead for all HVAC matters within France, ensuring designs comply with French regulations while maintaining the company's global engineering standards.
The Role
As the Senior Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical design of modular data centre projects, acting as the primary technical interface between clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, utility providers and internal engineering teams.
You will review, develop and modify HVAC designs, ensuring cooling systems are optimised for performance, efficiency and constructability while remaining compliant with French legislation and client requirements. This is a highly collaborative role requiring regular interaction with multidisciplinary engineering teams, commissioning specialists and project stakeholders throughout every stage of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the HVAC discipline from concept design through to commissioning and project handover.
- Develop, review and optimise HVAC system designs for modular data centre facilities.
- Produce and modify technical documentation including calculations, drawings, specifications and equipment schedules.
- Adapt global engineering standards to comply with French regulations, codes and permitting requirements.
- Coordinate with local consultants, bureaux de contrôle, contractors, suppliers and utility providers.
- Work closely with Electrical, Structural, Architectural, Fire Protection, Controls and BIM teams to ensure fully integrated design solutions.
- Review cooling load calculations, CFD studies, airflow strategies, equipment selections and overall system performance.
- Provide technical support during procurement, manufacturing, construction, commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- Identify technical risks, resolve design clashes and provide practical engineering solutions throughout project delivery.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to both local and international engineering teams.
Technical Experience Required
Successful candidates should have strong knowledge across several of the following:
- Chilled water systems
- Air-cooled cooling systems
- CRAH and CRAC units
- CDU and hydronic systems
- Airflow management and CFD
- Heat rejection systems
- HVAC controls and BMS integration
- Energy-efficient cooling solutions
- Commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
- Modular or prefabricated data centre solutions
About You
To be considered, you should have:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in Mechanical/HVAC design or project delivery.
- Previous experience delivering data centres, mission-critical facilities, industrial projects or similarly complex infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of HVAC design principles, cooling technologies and mechanical building services.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams across complex construction projects.
- Knowledge of French regulations, codes, permitting processes and local engineering practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with BIM coordination and software such as Revit, AutoCAD or equivalent would be advantageous.
- Fluent French and professional English are essential.
