Chiller Startup & Service Technician – Data Center Cooling
Location: Dallas, TX
Salary: Competitive base salary + overtime/travel opportunities

I'm currently partnering with a rapidly growing company specializing in advanced cooling solutions for mission-critical and data center environments.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to add an experienced Chiller Startup & Service Technician to their team in Dallas.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on HVAC/R professional with strong chiller experience who wants to work with next-generation cooling technology supporting some of the industry's most demanding applications.
The Opportunity
The Chiller Startup & Service Technician will be responsible for the startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, service, and maintenance of advanced cooling systems.
You'll work directly with customers, contractors, and internal engineering teams to bring new equipment online, troubleshoot issues, and ensure systems are operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform startup and commissioning of air-cooled and water-cooled chiller systems.
- Troubleshoot and service chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, hydronic systems, and associated equipment.
- Perform system checks, functional testing, calibration, and equipment optimization.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls-related issues.
- Work with PLCs, VFDs, sensors, control panels, and other system controls.
- Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and leak detection where required.
- Verify proper flow, pressures, temperatures, and overall system performance.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, schematics, and equipment documentation.
- Assist with commissioning activities and system performance testing.
- Identify equipment issues and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Complete service reports, startup documentation, commissioning records, and maintenance documentation.
- Work directly with customers, contractors, and project teams during equipment startup and service.
- Respond to service calls and support troubleshooting of equipment in the field.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- 3+ years of commercial, industrial, or process HVAC/R experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with chillers.
- Experience with hydronic cooling/heating systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and related equipment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability.
- Experience with refrigeration systems and refrigerant circuits.
- Familiarity with VFDs, PLCs, control systems, and sensors is highly desirable.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs.
- Previous startup, commissioning, installation, or service experience strongly preferred.
- EPA 608 certification preferred.
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to work independently in the field and troubleshoot problems effectively.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50% nationwide.
