This established international engineering contractor is recognised for delivering complex mechanical, electrical, and engineering solutions across some of Europe's most challenging projects. With expertise spanning Data Centres, Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Energy, and Industrial sectors, the business continues to experience significant growth and has secured a strong pipeline of projects across Germany and the wider European market.
As part of this continued expansion, they are looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function on major engineering and construction projects, playing a pivotal role in ensuring successful financial and contractual delivery.

The Role
As Commercial Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the commercial performance of one or more major projects, providing leadership to the commercial team while ensuring strong contractual governance, financial control, and commercial strategy throughout the full project lifecycle. Working closely with Project Directors, clients, subcontractors, and senior management, you will be responsible for driving commercial success, mitigating risk, and maximising project profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial delivery of major engineering and construction projects from pre-construction through to final account.
- Manage all contractual and commercial aspects throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Quantity Surveyors and commercial team members.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
- Oversee subcontract procurement, tender evaluations, contract negotiations, and appointments.
- Manage project budgets, cost reporting, forecasting, cash flow, and margin analysis.
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities for project performance.
- Oversee variations, claims, change management, and final account negotiations.
- Ensure accurate monthly commercial reporting for senior leadership.
- Provide commercial guidance to project teams and support strategic business objectives.
- Ensure contractual compliance and effective commercial governance across all project activities.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor position on large-scale engineering or construction projects.
- Strong Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) project experience is highly desirable.
- Previous experience within Data Centres, Pharmaceutical, Industrial, Energy, or Mission Critical environments would be advantageous.
- Excellent commercial acumen with a strong understanding of procurement, contract administration, cost management, and commercial strategy.
- Experience managing commercial teams and mentoring junior surveyors.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within fast-paced project environments.
