The role

A boutique, privately held data center developer with $4.5B under management and a live development pipeline in the hundreds of megawatts is hiring a Solutions Engineer to sit at the intersection of technical design and business development. This is a client-facing role reporting directly to the SVP of Data Center Leasing. You are the person who takes what a hyperscaler or enterprise customer needs and turns it into something that can actually be built and delivered.

The firm is small by design. 30 years of institutional track record, and a portfolio that spans 18 operating data centers with major new campuses under development in Northern Virginia, Phoenix, Silicon Valley, and Richmond. If you want the technical depth of a design role combined with real commercial influence and the earnings that go with it, this is a genuinely unusual opportunity in this market.

What you will be doing

  • Partner with the leasing team to develop technical strategies for new opportunities and RFPs, and lead the technical response on major pursuits
  • Build deep relationships with hyperscale, cloud, and enterprise customers and translate their infrastructure requirements into executable data center solutions
  • Own the connectivity architecture narrative including meet-me rooms, cross-connects, diverse points of entry, dark fiber, and cloud on-ramps. Produce logical and physical interconnect diagrams covering latency and availability trade-offs.
  • Translate client requirements into conceptual designs covering MEP capacity planning, whitespace layouts, and interconnection architecture
  • Plan for AI and HPC densities above 50kW per rack including thermal envelope analysis and liquid cooling options including direct-to-chip and rear-door heat exchangers
  • Develop cost and performance models including TCO analysis, PUE metrics, and modular scaling options
  • Review and interpret one-line diagrams, cooling schematics, and electrical load schedules
  • Serve as the technical point of contact from contract negotiation through execution, ensuring customer requirements are clearly documented and handed off to Development
  • Participate in design reviews, factory witness testing, and turnover milestones

  • Familiarity with liquid cooling ecosystems and AI/HPC reference designs
  • Able to read and interpret client specifications, engineering drawings, and RFP documents
  • Strong communication and presentation skills comfortable with both technical engineers and C-suite stakeholders
  • Experience with data center delivery lifecycles from concept through commissioning
  • Able to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously against tight deadlines
