Mechanical Engineer, Data Center Design

Location: Remote (US) / New York NY / Austin TX / San Francisco CA

Salary: $150,000 – $250,000 per year, plus equity

Type: Full-time

The role

A hyperscale data center developer with a gigawatt-scale build pipeline is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to own mechanical systems end to end across a growing portfolio of AI-optimised data center facilities. You will lead the development of modular mechanical template designs, manage specialist consultants and fabrication partners, and act as the technical bridge between internal strategy and external execution.

The shift to high-density AI compute is creating demand for mechanical engineers who understand advanced cooling at scale. Liquid-to-chip and immersion cooling experience is particularly valuable here. If that is your background and you want full ownership of the mechanical lifecycle across a programme of this size, the scope and compensation are hard to match.

What you will be doing

  • Lead the design and evolution of mechanical systems for AI-optimised, high-density data center projects
  • Develop and maintain modular mechanical templates to support rapid, repeatable deployment across multiple sites
  • Serve as the technical interface between internal teams and external consultants, ensuring alignment with high-density cooling and power requirements
  • Own mechanical systems from initial concept and analytical modelling through final build and execution
  • Apply strong analytical judgment through CFD modelling and capacity planning to inform design decisions
  • Hold external partners accountable for technical quality across engineering and fabrication workflows
  • Manage concurrent projects across design, permitting, and construction phases

What we need from you

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 to 8 years of experience designing large-scale industrial or mission-critical facilities, specifically data centers
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-density cooling systems including liquid-to-chip and immersion cooling
  • Proficiency in Revit and BIM for template creation and design development
  • Strong analytical skills including CFD modelling and capacity planning
  • Able to operate with full ownership and manage complex external relationships

Good to have

  • PE license
  • Prior experience at a hyperscale operator or large-scale data center developer

Compensation and benefits

$150,000 – $250,000 per year DOE, plus equity

Health, dental, and vision insurance

Retirement plan

Generous PTO
