With an ambitious mandate to deploy gigawatts of capacity at unprecedented speed, this organization is securing land, power, and critical utilities ahead of traditional timelines. Their approach combines first-principles thinking with commercial execution to unlock new models for infrastructure delivery, supporting the rapid expansion of next-generation data center capacity.
We are seeking an experienced Director of Energy & Utilities to lead the strategy, development, and execution of utility infrastructure solutions across a rapidly growing data center portfolio.
This role sits at the intersection of energy strategy, utility development, commercial negotiations, and infrastructure delivery. You will own the full lifecycle of power and utility development projects, building strategic relationships with utilities, managing interconnection processes, and ensuring energy and water infrastructure aligns with ambitious deployment timelines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the full lifecycle of utility power development projects across multiple U.S. markets, from initial feasibility through finalized interconnection agreements
- Building and leading a high-performing team of energy and utilities specialists across a rapidly scaling infrastructure portfolio
- Managing relationships with utilities, energy suppliers, water providers, and behind-the-meter generation partners
- Negotiating utility service agreements, PPAs, power commitments, water supply contracts, and infrastructure access agreements
- Assessing new data center locations for power availability, interconnection risk, and water supply constraints prior to site commitments
- Aligning utility capacity, energy delivery timelines, and infrastructure requirements with construction and design teams
- Managing energy portfolios, including physical and financial instruments, to optimize performance, costs, and contractual commitments
- Providing strategic insights and risk assessments to executive leadership on utility availability and infrastructure delivery
Qualifications
- Proven experience managing U.S. utility interconnection processes from early feasibility through executed agreements
- Strong track record negotiating power purchase agreements, utility service contracts, and behind-the-meter generation agreements
- Experience building and leading energy, utilities, or infrastructure teams within a high-growth environment
- Strong understanding of power markets, utility operations, and energy infrastructure development
- Ability to manage complex stakeholder groups across utilities, engineering, construction, legal, and commercial teams
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage utility executives and provide clear updates to senior leadership
- Beneficial if; Experience with energy trading, hedging, or demand response, Utility-side experience (ISO/RTO or public power entities), Expertise across ERCOT, NYISO, MISO, SPP, or SERC markets, Experience with co-located generation, powered land, or hybrid grid models, Exposure to regulatory and policy processes including PUC proceedings and ISO stakeholder engagement
