Recruiting for data center teams across Asia Pacific
Asia Pacific is one region with very different hiring problems in it. Southeast Asia is building at volume and needs delivery teams faster than the local pool can supply them. The established markets need operations and commissioning people, and hold on to them tightly.
We recruit across all of it from one desk. That matters when a programme spans two countries, because pay expectations, hiring rules and the depth of the local engineering pool differ in each, and someone has to be able to tell you which side of a border a role is realistically winnable on.
- Permanent, contract and executive search
- Hyperscale operators, colocation providers, contractors and OEMs
- One consultant across the region

Roles we recruit across APAC
A selection of the positions we fill for operators, colocation providers, main contractors and design consultancies working across the region.
Construction delivery
The largest share of regional demand, concentrated in the Southeast Asian markets building at volume. The constraint is data center delivery experience specifically, not general construction experience.
- Project Director
- Senior Project Manager
- Construction Manager
- MEP Coordinator
- Package Manager
- Planner
- Cost Manager
- HSE Manager
Commissioning
Specialists who prove the systems work before handover. In the newer markets this experience is usually brought in rather than found locally.
- Commissioning Manager
- Commissioning Authority (CxA)
- Electrical Commissioning Engineer
- Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
- Integrated Systems Testing Lead
- QA and QC Engineer
Design and engineering
Engineers carrying the technical definition, including those who have designed for the region's heat and humidity rather than for a temperate climate.
- Lead MEP Engineer
- Electrical Design Engineer
- Mechanical Design Engineer
- Cooling Systems Engineer
- HV and Power Systems Engineer
- BIM Coordinator
Critical operations
The teams running live facilities, where the established markets compete hardest and retention matters as much as attraction.
- Critical Facilities Manager
- Data Center Manager
- Shift Lead
- Electrical Shift Engineer
- Mechanical Shift Engineer
- BMS Engineer
Leadership and commercial
Senior and confidential appointments, many of them carrying responsibility across more than one country in the region.
- Country Manager
- Regional Director
- Head of Operations
- Programme Director
- Sales Director

Tell us the role and the market and we will confirm whether it is realistically fillable locally, what it should pay and how long it is likely to take.
Why employers choose Clear in APAC
Four things clients tell us make the difference on a regional search.
One consultant across several markets
A programme spanning two countries is two searches, not one. Briefing a single consultant is what lets us tell you which side of a border a role is realistically winnable on, rather than each agency only seeing its own market.
We screen for data center delivery, not adjacent work
The regional build has grown faster than the pool of people who have actually delivered a data center. A strong CV from another kind of large project often does not survive a technical interview, so we check for sector experience before you spend time on it.
We check the hiring rules market by market
Every country in the region treats overseas hiring differently, and one assumption applied across all of them will be wrong somewhere. We confirm the position for your specific market at the briefing rather than at offer stage.
We know where a role has to be imported
Some disciplines are genuinely available locally and some are not, and it varies by country. We tell you which category your role sits in before the search starts, because a role scoped as local when it is really an international search will sit open for months.
How we work with you
Three ways to engage, depending on the role and how quickly you need someone in post.
The disciplines we recruit into across Asia Pacific
Each discipline below is run by consultants who work that field specifically. The region's constraint is construction delivery and commissioning, where the pipeline has grown faster than the pool of people who have actually built a data center, with technical operations close behind in the established markets.

Data Center Recruitment APAC: your questions answered
Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Australia, each with its own page inside this region. They are genuinely different places to hire: Malaysia is building at volume in Johor while competing for people with Singapore across the border, Thailand ties foreign work permits to a company's local headcount unless the project carries investment promotion, Hong Kong adds capacity inside occupied multi-storey buildings, Singapore is weighted towards getting more from facilities that already exist, and Australia's constraint is the size of the labour pool itself. Clients frequently brief us on more than one at a time, which is why the region runs from a single desk rather than several.
It depends where. For volume construction delivery it is the Southeast Asian markets, where the pipeline has grown faster than the pool of people who have actually built a data center. For commissioning and operations leadership it is the newer markets, where the local base is thinner and most of the experience is brought in. In the established markets the difficulty is retention rather than supply. We scope the specific problem at the briefing.
It becomes two searches held by one consultant. Pay expectations, hiring rules and the depth of the local engineering pool are all different, so the useful thing is comparative judgement: which side of a border a given role is realistically winnable on, and where the plan needs changing. Separate agencies in each country cannot give you that because each only sees its own market.
Yes, and it is common. Every market in Asia Pacific treats overseas hiring differently, so we confirm the position for your specific country at the briefing rather than applying one rule across the region. Where a role is difficult to fill from outside as things stand, we say so before the search starts and focus on candidates already in the market.
Because the two are not interchangeable, and the region's growth has made that gap wider. Someone who has delivered very large projects in another sector will often struggle with the specific demands of a data center build: the tolerance for error, the commissioning regime and the standards a client is being measured against. We screen for genuine sector delivery, which is why our shortlists hold up better at technical interview.
Shortlisting is usually quick because we work from a mapped regional network. The variable is what follows: your interview process, and for an overseas hire the work permit steps in that particular market. We give you a realistic estimate for your specific role at the briefing rather than a standard figure.
Permanent hires are normally contingent, so you pay when your candidate starts. Senior and confidential mandates run retained, with the fee staged across the search in return for exclusivity and a mapped market. Contract placements carry a margin over the day rate. Where a role involves relocation we set out which associated costs sit with you before a search begins.
