Recruiting for data center teams in Thailand
Thailand's large data center projects are concentrated in the Eastern Economic Corridor, the industrial zone south east of Bangkok, where campuses sit inside established industrial estates that bring their own power and utility arrangements with them. Bangkok itself holds the older colocation and carrier estate. In practice the capital hires for running facilities and the corridor hires for building them.
The point that shapes every Thai search is the work permit position. Thai rules tie the number of foreign work permits a company can hold to the number of Thai employees on its payroll and to its registered capital, and a project promoted by the Board of Investment is treated differently. We establish which applies to your business before a search starts, because it decides how much of the team can come from outside Thailand.

- Hyperscale operators, colocation providers, contractors and consultancies
- Bangkok and Eastern Economic Corridor roles on one desk

Roles we recruit in Thailand
A selection of the positions we fill for hyperscale operators, colocation providers, main contractors and design consultancies working in Thailand.
Construction delivery
The largest share of Thai demand, concentrated on the corridor campuses. These programmes run inside industrial estates, so coordinating with the estate operator and its utilities sits alongside the build itself.
- Project Director
- Senior Project Manager
- Construction Manager
- MEP Manager
- Package Manager
- Planner
- Cost Manager
- HSE Manager
Design and engineering
Engineers carrying the technical definition of a facility, including the cooling design a hot and humid climate demands and the electrical interface with an industrial estate's own supply.
- Lead MEP Engineer
- Electrical Design Engineer
- Mechanical Design Engineer
- Cooling Systems Engineer
- HV and Power Systems Engineer
- BIM Coordinator
Commissioning
Specialists who prove the systems perform before handover. This experience is most often brought in from outside Thailand, which makes the permit position on your project the first thing to settle.
- Commissioning Manager
- Commissioning Authority (CxA)
- Electrical Commissioning Engineer
- Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
- Integrated Systems Testing Lead
Critical operations
The teams running live facilities, weighted towards the Bangkok estate. Promoted projects normally carry a commitment to develop Thai staff, so these teams are built to bring people on rather than only to buy in finished experience.
- Critical Facilities Manager
- Data Center Manager
- Operations Manager
- Shift Lead
- Electrical Shift Engineer
- Mechanical Shift Engineer
- BMS Engineer
- Data Center Technician
Leadership and commercial
Senior and confidential appointments, including country leadership and the commercial roles that sell colocation and wholesale capacity into the Thai market.
- Country Manager
- Head of Operations
- Programme Director
- Commercial Director
- Business Development Manager
- Account Director
Tell us the role and we will confirm whether it can be filled from inside Thailand, what it should pay and what the permit position means for the start date.
Why employers choose Clear in Thailand
Four things that shape how a Thai search runs.
We settle the work permit position first
Thai rules link foreign work permits to Thai headcount and registered capital, and promotion from the Board of Investment changes what is possible. Establishing which applies to you is what makes a shortlist realistic rather than aspirational, so we ask before the search rather than at offer stage.
We recruit for the corridor and the capital
Delivery work sits in the Eastern Economic Corridor and operations work sits largely in Bangkok. One consultant covering both means a candidate can be put forward for the location that suits them rather than the one that happens to be advertised.
We build teams that can develop Thai staff
A promoted project normally carries a commitment to train and develop local employees. We screen senior hires for the ability to bring a team on as well as for their own technical record, because that commitment is met by the people you appoint.
We screen for data center delivery, not adjacent industrial work
Thailand has a large industrial engineering base, so a shortlist fills quickly with strong process and manufacturing people. We check for data center experience first, which is where an otherwise convincing CV most often comes apart at technical interview.
How we work with you
Three ways to engage, depending on the role and how quickly you need someone in post.
The disciplines we recruit into in Thailand
Each discipline below is run by consultants who specialise in that field. Thai programmes draw most heavily on project and construction management, design and commissioning, and those are also the disciplines most often brought in from outside the country, which is where the permit position starts to matter.

Data Center Recruitment Thailand: your questions answered
We cover five areas. Construction delivery in the corridor, which carries the largest share of demand and runs from project directors and construction managers through to package managers, planners and cost managers. Design and engineering, including MEP leads, cooling specialists and power systems engineers. Commissioning, which is most often brought in from outside the country and covers commissioning managers, CxA professionals and electrical and mechanical commissioning engineers. Critical operations for live facilities. And senior leadership and commercial appointments. If a role is not named here it is still worth asking, because our coverage is wider than the list.
Mainly the Eastern Economic Corridor and Bangkok. The corridor, which covers the provinces south east of the capital including Chonburi and Rayong, is where the large campuses are being built, usually inside industrial estates that supply their own power and utilities. Bangkok holds the longer established colocation and carrier estate and most of the operations demand. We ask which of the two a role sits in at the briefing, because the candidate pools are not the same.
It depends on your company's position rather than on the individual. Thai rules link the number of foreign work permits a business can hold to the number of Thai employees it has and to its registered capital, so a company with a small local payroll is limited in how many overseas specialists it can sponsor. A project promoted by the Board of Investment is treated differently and is not held to that ratio in the same way. These requirements are set by the Thai authorities and are revised periodically, so we confirm the current position for your business at the briefing rather than assuming it.
A significant one. Data centers are a promoted activity, and promotion is what lifts a project out of the standard ratio between Thai and foreign employees. Promoted projects are also handled through a One Stop Service Centre, which is a faster route for work permits than a standard application. The trade is that promotion normally comes with commitments on developing local skills, so the team you build is expected to bring Thai staff on rather than to rely indefinitely on people brought in. We take both sides of that into account when we scope a search.
The binding constraint is different in each. In Thailand it is the permit position, which sets how much of the team can come from outside the country. In Malaysia it is competition for people, particularly in Johor where employers hire against Singapore packages across the border. In Singapore it is the shape of the work itself, weighted towards getting more out of existing facilities rather than building new ones. A plan that works in one of the three will not transfer to the others unchanged, which is the main reason we run them from one desk.
Shortlisting is rarely the slow part, because we work from a mapped regional network rather than an advert. The timeline turns on the permit route instead. A Thai national or someone already holding the right to work moves on their notice period, while an overseas specialist depends on your company's permit position and whether the project carries investment promotion. We build the timeline around your own position rather than quoting a standard one.
Permanent hires are normally contingent, so you pay when your candidate starts. Senior and confidential mandates run retained, with the fee staged across the search in return for exclusivity and a mapped market. Contract placements carry a margin over the day rate. Where a role involves someone relocating into Thailand we set out which mobilisation costs sit with you before the search begins, so the full cost is clear up front.
