The Opportunity

We are currently working with a leading general contractor delivering major hyperscale data center projects across the Middle East. As the business continues to expand its presence within the region’s rapidly growing data center market, they are looking to appoint an experienced Project Director - Data Centers to lead the delivery of a major, technically complex hyperscale development.

This is a senior leadership position, responsible for the overall successful delivery of the project from mobilisation through to completion, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, programme, commercial performance and client satisfaction are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and direction for the project, establishing a clear delivery strategy and ensuring successful execution from pre-construction through to handover.
• Take full responsibility for project performance across programme, cost, quality, health & safety and contractual delivery.
• Lead and manage a large multidisciplinary project team, including construction, MEP, commercial, planning, procurement, QA/QC and commissioning functions.
• Drive the delivery of complex MEP and mission-critical infrastructure, ensuring integration between architectural, structural and building services packages.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with the client, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
• Lead regular senior-level project reviews, providing clear reporting on progress, risks, commercial performance and programme.
• Oversee procurement and subcontractor strategy, ensuring key packages are secured and delivered in line with project requirements.
• Manage programme delivery, identifying potential delays and implementing effective mitigation and recovery strategies.
• Maintain strong commercial control, working closely with the commercial team to manage variations, claims, cost exposure and contractual obligations.
• Ensure project works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications, quality standards and applicable local regulations.
• Establish and maintain a strong safety culture across the project, ensuring compliance with company and client HSE requirements.
• Coordinate closely with commissioning and operations teams to ensure systems are fully tested, commissioned and ready for handover.
• Provide strategic leadership during key project milestones, including testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing and final handover.
• Identify project risks and opportunities, implementing appropriate mitigation and contingency strategies.
• Represent the contractor at senior client and stakeholder meetings and act as the primary point of escalation for project delivery matters.

Candidate Requirements

• Significant experience in senior project leadership roles within the construction industry, ideally as Project Director, Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.
• Proven track record delivering large-scale data center/ hyperscale projects for a major general contractor.
• Strong understanding of the technical and operational requirements associated with mission-critical environments.
• Extensive experience managing complex MEP-intensive construction projects, ideally with substantial electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
• Demonstrable experience managing large multidisciplinary teams and multiple specialist subcontractors.
• Strong commercial and contractual understanding, with experience managing project budgets, variations, claims and cost control.
• Excellent understanding of construction programmes, project controls, procurement and commissioning.
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to operate at senior executive level.
• Experience working in the Middle East is highly desirable; international candidates with strong hyperscale data center experience will also be considered.
• Degree-qualified in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline is preferred.
• Relevant professional qualifications or chartership would be advantageous.

Ideal Background

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering hyperscale or large-scale mission-critical data center developments, ideally having worked for a tier-one general contractor or major construction organisation.

Candidates should be comfortable operating in highly demanding project environments where programme, technical complexity, quality and client expectations are critical to success. Experience taking projects through construction, testing, commissioning and handover will be particularly valuable.
